Into the Black, Part IIIb: Team Delta

Looking to the right, the hallway goes quite a ways down. There are several doors along the way, but also an open space at the far end that looks like it might be a stairwell.

Unfortunately, it's immediately clear that these hallways aren't going to provide any cover whatsoever.

"You're so generous ma'am," he says, rolling his eyes and double checking one of his explosive settings.

Duo falls into place at the rear of the group and takes the safety off his weapon. "Don't forget to look up, everyone."

"I got up covered," Steph says, checking the compartments on her belt are all closed tight. "You guys focus on down."

She's way too excited about this, even if you can hardly see that through the mask.

Goldy is still familiarizing herself with all her new toys. A click and a spark later, and the ominous hiss at the muzzle of her hi-tech Korlian FT-12 ignites into a gently whickering pilot flame.

"Oh, are we talking?" she pipes up innocently.

"I thought we were going for stealth until first contact."

Jen's just heard Oracle's advisory, so she holds up a hand, peering around the corner. So far, nothing, but dammit, Alpha Team's under fire already.

"Of course we're talking." She grins back at Goldie.

She tries out the comm, whispering. "Ladies and gent, that was fast. Do you read? Zed, I need to know what's inside these walls."

Zed's voice comes through over the comm. "Synthesized tubers from Dikon III. Same material that we use in our Suits. Good non-conducting insulation. And before you ask, no adverse health effects."

"Zed. I need something to HIT with. Like a fifty foot baseball bat."

"Try the railings on the stairway. Solid titanium. They have to be--we get visitors with some pretty strong grips."

Goldy idly wonders why Jen has assumed the role of team leader for herself. She reconciles the move with the fact that Jen is currently an intimidating green colossus, and shrugs. Sometimes you just have to defer to greater mass.

The fact that said mass still has gorgeous hair makes it easier to swallow.

Of course she has gorgeous hair. Gamma radiation makes better hair than upteen gallons of Pantene! It loosk good in slo mo, too.
