Zed's been spending most of the day staring out the Observation Window. He doesn't need the holographic data or the floor plans anymore. He really didn't need them in the first place. He could have run this entire scenario in his head if he had had to. Laying it out on paper and screen was just a matter of convenience, and a way to double-check that he wasn't making an obvious mistake.

Either way, the time for prep is done. The word's gone out to the volunteers about tonight's briefing, and they have already begun to show up. Zed's found a quiet corner of the bar and a small table, on which sits the cylinder which is now projecting a holographic image of the MiB logo.

He's been staring at that logo. It's never been more compromised than it is right now. By the time this mission is done, it will stand for something again--or be finished for good.

But then comes the sight of the first people arriving, and just like that, all his worries are cast aside.

"Hi, I'm Jen. Jen Walters, known in some parts as the She-Hulk. Apparently Zed thinks women are best suited to the smash and grab, and I can't say I disagree with him. And you guys are...?"

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

Goldy leans over and offers her hand to the huge green goddess.

"I'm Goldy," she says with a smile. "Short for Goldilocks."

"Yes, that one, or a version of her, if you're familiar with the tale. I'm a Fable. And I'm the artillery, at least in the context of this mission. I'm also immortal, and a markswoman."

She's particularly taken by the She-Hulk's rather gorgeous hair, though she's not prepared to actually release a compliment at this point.

"Steph," Steph says, "or Robin sometimes. Probably just Steph." She waits in line for handshakes, grinning. "Dude, this is gonna be so cool."

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

Once Goldy has acquainted herself, she leaves Jen and Steph and heads over to Duo, offering a smile and a handshake when she reaches him.

"Hi. I'm Goldy."

"Mary speaks highly of you."

...oh yeah. He shakes her hand. "She's mentioned you too. She's a good kid, it's nice to meet someone else who knows her and likes her."

Duo chuckles. "And I didn't mention this mission to her before I left, I guess I was afraid she'd try to sneak through the door."

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

"I've actually been avoiding her since Christmas," Goldy concedes, a bit sheepishly. "She bought me the most hideous Edwardian hat as a present, and, honestly, I'm terrified that she's going to pout at me until I wear it in public."

"And that's just never going to happen."
maxwellsdemon02: (Is that so?)

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

"The worst part is I know I would. I'm kind of a sucker when it comes to saying 'no' to her."

He shrugs. "How'd you get persuaded into this?"

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

"Persuaded?"

She looks at him askance.

"Well, if you need a reason for my involvement, I know K. But the truth is that I never turn down a chance to wreak legitimized chaos."

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

"Ahhh, well. I can't argue there. He showed me the mech I get to use, and it was all downhill from there. I didn't know Zed or K before this. Blowing up the bad guys is my regular job, but I usually get more paperwork to do."

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

Goldy nods understandingly.

"Firearms have always been my forte, rather than explosives or armored vehicles. I've kept up with them since the first flintlocks and breech loaders came onto the scene in the Fifteenth Century."

"I've mostly been self-employed though, so the red tape has been minimal."

"Yeah? Demolitions and mechanics are my specialties, but I'm no slack with a gun, either. And I gotta say, you don't look a day over three-hundred."

He smirks.

She matches his expression, a little more indecently.

"I like to think it's all the oats I get."

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

"The wilder the better."

She gives him a wink that would be highly inappropriate in any situation, let alone the tense briefing they are currently in the middle of.

"How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? And where are you from?"

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

Jen squeezes Goldy's hand in a friendly shake, then offers her hand to Steph.

It's certainly possible that there's a superteam out there that Jen hasn't heard of. Perhaps they're new, or just obscure? Or not from her world at all?

"The Fables? I've never heard of them. Do you guys work on the West Coast?"

Goldilocks. Hmmm.

From: [identity profile] 3rdtimelucky.livejournal.com

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

Goldy chuckles gently.

"No. We are actually Fables; versions of the characters from the stories that are popular on Earth. We've been living as refugees there since the 1400's, when our own world was over-run by an evil horde, most in a secret Manhattan enclave or on a farm in upstate New York."

From: [identity profile] gammagammahey.livejournal.com

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

Jen digests that for a second, although she's already laughing in amazement that upstate New York is now hiding two sets of weird beings, not just one, even if it's on a different Earth. Must be the leylines or something. Plus, secret history is fascinating.

"I hope it's not impolite to ask, but were you born, or made? I've met some people that were deliberately transformed to resemble mythological characters. And upstate New York? I'm...glad to hear that it's a refuge. Ever hear of Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters?"

From: [identity profile] 3rdtimelucky.livejournal.com

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

"I was born," she confirms. "Regularly."

"And, yes, for the latter... through some of the X-folk I've met around here. Mostly Rachel Grey; she's a good friend of mine."

From: [identity profile] gammagammahey.livejournal.com

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

"...Rachel? You know Rachel?"

That's highly unexpected; maybe Goldy's from Jen's Earth? But then again, the X-family has more alternate versions of each other than the Exiles.

From: [identity profile] 3rdtimelucky.livejournal.com

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

"Er... yes?" Goldy replies, a little unsure why that seems odd to Jen.

"I met her shortly after I arrived, and subsequently helped rescue her from Gaunt's enslavement. That was about a year ago. She works Security here these days."

From: [identity profile] gammagammahey.livejournal.com

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

Jen hasn't heard of bar Security yet, but she intuits that's what Goldy means.

"Rachel Grey is employed at Milliways? I wonder what her dad thinks of that. I've just never seen her here, so I'm surprised. I've only met two people from my Earth here. Well, three, if you count my cousin."

She's a little sad to hear that Rachel somehow was put into captivity again; she's familiar enough with the X families to know that Rachel didn't have a happy childhood.

From: [identity profile] 3rdtimelucky.livejournal.com

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

Goldy nods.

"Currently, I only know of two who are here from my Earth and original world. To whit: Rapunzel and Rose Red. Snow White and Bigby Wolf used to reside here, but popular rumor seems to suggest that they have moved on."

It's not apparent quite how pleased she is about that.

From: [identity profile] 3rdtimelucky.livejournal.com

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

"That's the million dollar question," Goldy replies cryptically.

She shrugs dismissively.

"I don't know the real story there. She never spoke of them, and used to get incredibly pissy if anyone ever brought them up."

From: [identity profile] gammagammahey.livejournal.com

Re: Briefing V: Team Delta

"Okay. Note to self: don't bring up Sneezy and Grumpy. She did marry the Prince though, right?

...right?"

Some things from childhood are too precious to suffer the scouring winds of reality.

But then again, who needs princes riding to the rescue?
